The Use of the Mix.

If you have spent anytime around me in the last few years, you may have noticed my use of the word "mix."

A typical example would be if I asked you as a greeting "What is the mix?"

Often the first look I get is one of puzzlement. Then after a short explanation the conversation continues. Instead of saying "Hi, how are you, how have you been?" and then making further polite conversational inquiries as to well being and activities, it is a simple phrase which asks all the questions.

Think of "mix" as a catch all. As mix is defined officially : to create or form by combining ingredients. "What is the mix?" encompasses how are you, how have you been, do anything fun recently, what is on your mind, what do you think about the weather, do you have any plans, how was that thing you did, etc. etc. Basically a short succinct way to ask someone if there is anything they would like to talk about and if not we can progress from there.

Mix has also found its way into other uses such as:

Did you get that mix I sent you?

What's the mix with that guys hair?

Didn't you do that mix before and regretted it later?

Those mixers are total chadbags.

What kind of mix you got there?

I read that mix and thought those Wracks were awesome.

Want to play a game of mix?

The "mix" is very much based on the context and general direction of conversation.

Thank you Nick Fenske for adding this wonderfully useful bit of lingo to my lexicon of verbiage.
